Many people ask if IS is worth the extra money for the Canon 28-135 IS. Some respond that it is useless on a lens in that range and some would not be without it. Personally I love the 28-135 IS because of it’s range and because of IS.
However the question still remains, do you really need IS on a non tele lens? Well Franck Dewannieux performed a test with his 28-135 IS. The first shot is with IS turned off and the second is with IS turned on. The pictures are 100% crops at 135mm, 1/30 sec handheld and no post processing. I think that the results speak for themselves.
